Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wilton Stand-Up Cuddly Bear Pan SetCustomer Review: cute pan Summary: 4 Stars
I thought that cake batter would leak all over, but this pan actually worked out pretty well. I used Pam for baking and the cake slid right out. The clips that hold it together are very tight (if you have weak or arthritic hands, forget it) but I guess that's why it didn't leak. Not an easy cake to decorate, though. If you have the patience, go for it.
Customer Review: MUST CHECK BEFORE USE-NOT ALL SETS FIT TOGETHER Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this set last minute before my Granddaughter's birthday because she saw it online & "just had to have this". I paid the express shipping to be sure I had it but had a major disappointment on receipt. I could not even get all the clips on the sides due to the way the ends were bend outward and when I did get it together best as it would allow I had big open areas that would allow the batter to run right out. So much for express shipping to save time of running around locally to find this--I had to run to the neareast craft shop to buy one anyway as I could not use this one. I made the clerk take it out of the box at the store and we checked the other one and that was fine. The pan was very easy to use once I had one that was not defective and the cake baked up beautifully. My Granddaughter loved it! Needless to say the defective one went back.
Customer Review: works...sort of... Summary: 3 Stars
Half of my pan was slightly bent causing me to have to fiddle with it before I could get the sides to more or less match. The match up is stil not perfect but I could not send it back since I needed it before I would get a replacement. It worked, but a lot of the batter came out the sides while baking.
Customer Review: Open well ahead of the planned baking! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this item as a project for the entire family to do on Christmas eve. I should have opened the box and put the pan together as soon as it arrived. Not realizing that a huge disappointment is awaiting, I opened the pan set the day of the baking. The tail and one of the paws was bent inwards. In addition, the rims of the pan did not fit together properly. I do not know whether the set was stored in the warehouse improperly or it was bought by the distributer with a defect from the manufacturer. I can see how some details could have been indented during shipping, but the fact that the two parts did not fit flush against each other is inexcusable. The only way this upside-down pan set can work is to have all details fit perfectly. I think the manufacturer/distributer should do a better job doing quality control on this item.
By the time we realized the pan was unusable, we already had the batter made. We had to use tin foil to try and close up the gaps. As the batter was already made, we poured it in hoping that we can salvage the situation, and watched it seeping slowly through the cracks onto the baking sheet.
Another thing to be aware is that the material is not non-stick. So even after lathering up the pans with PAM, shortening, and sprinkling flour, the batter still stuck to the pan in the face region. I think the detail in the face is too intricate and the manufacturer should have used better material to ensure that the cake separates without ripping the bear's face off.
Ultimately, I am giving this item a 2 rather than a 1 because even despite all these difficulties, decorating the bear was a blast and it was a huge success (notwithstanding 10 toothpicks holding the bear's face up). :-)
